Inveneo Debuts New Free Community Center Software Collection

Now community centers and schools can order the Inveneo Community Center Software Collection for Fit PC2 and ASUS EeeBox, EeePC, or EeeTop systems. The Inveneo Community Center Software Collection is a bundle of software and OS modifications that has proven to be very useful for computers running Windows XP Home in rural and remote areas. This bundle is designed for a shared computing environment where there is little to no technical support.

Organizations ordering these systems from Inveneo or an Inveneo Certified ICT Partner can specify the Community Center Software Collection in English or French, however the operating system must be in the same language.

The bundle includes more than 30 applications, including iTunes, Skype, QuickTime, RealPlayer, Flash, and Shockwave. It also includes a typing tutor and solutions to edit photographs, audio files, and movies.

The Community Center Software Collection includes:

  • Adobe Flash Player - animation and movie software required to view some websites
  • Adobe Shockwave - multimedia software required for some websites
  • Audacity - music editor that can record and play sounds and import and export WAV, AIFF, MP3, and OGG files. Available in multiple languages.
  • Auslogics - in-depth disk defragmenter
  • Avidemux - video-editing software
  • BurnAware - simple DVD and CD burning program available in multiple languages.
  • CutePDF Writer (requires Converter, also on the CutePDF website) - PDF creation software that allows users to create PDF images but not to view them.
  • Firefox - Internet browser that does a better job blocking popups than Internet Explorer. Available in multiple languages.
  • Foxit PDF Viewer - PDF viewer that runs faster than Acrobat Reader, but with fewer updates. Available in multiple languages.
  • gTalk - video and voice calling software that works through Gmail. Must have a Gmail email account to access.
  • iTunes - music management software allows people with ipods to connect to the computer. Available in multiple languages.
  • Java Runtime - software necessary to view many web pages
  • Klavaro Typing Program - basic typing program. Available in multiple languages.
  • OpenOffice - office productivity software that provides a free and open source alternative to MS Office. Available in multiple languages.
  • Paint.NET (Framework 3.5 Sp1) - photo editor software. Available in multiple languages.
  • Periodic Table of Elements - science education software that includes a periodic table, database of the elements, and molar-mass calculator combined with a chemical-solutions calculator.
  • Pidgin - all-in-one instant messaging program that works with AIM, Google Talk, MSN, Yahoo! and many others. Best for personal computers or when you do not want to use meebo.com. Available in multiple languages.
  • Power Calculator - scientific and graphic calculator.
  • PrtSrc - screen capture tool.
  • Pure Sudoku - sudoku games with different levels of difficulty.
  • Quad-Lock Unit Converter - conversion software for units of all kinds from metric to standard and vice verse.
  • Quicktime - video playback software necessary for watching some videos on the Internet. Available in multiple languages.
  • RealPlayer - audio playback software necessary for listening to audio on some websites. Available in multiple languages.
  • Skype - telephony software for making internet calls and instant messaging. Available in multiple languages.
  • Stellarium - science education software that provides planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
  • Tweak UI - administration software that offers advanced tools for logging into XP.
  • UltraVNC - administration software. Since XP Home does not allow for remote access, use VNC instead for remote log in of the client machine. Available in multiple languages.
  • VLC - video decoder that plays several video formats and codecs. Available in multiple languages.
  • Winamp - music player. Available in multiple languages.
  • WinSCP - a FTP and SFTP client. Available in multiple languages.
  • 7zip - good compression program, similar to WinZip. Language based on OS language.
